Part of being prepared is being aware of the resources around you no matter where you are. As an example here is a good sized backup generator I noticed at a rest area on I-70.
Turns out several states have backup power at rest areas. It’s considered a safety issue by some (especially some Northern states).
It does make sense – if you are stranded due to weather, especially in winter, the rest area buildings can provide a warm spot to shelter in – even if the grid (local or otherwise) is down.
I didn’t see a fuel source – it could be an underground tank or natural gas line.
What resources do you see when you’re traveling? Leave a comment to let others know.
